17-Aug-39 — Dr. Ley Says “Bluff!”
In this evening’s Der Angriff, the newspaper of the National Socialist party gau of Berlin, Dr. Robert Ley, Reich Labour Minister, writes,
“I do not believe any longer that there will be a war. I prefer to think that the noisy protests of London, Paris and Warsaw constitute just one big piece of bluff. The Moscow negotiations show how limited is the strength of the Western Powers. No one can exceed the Bolshevists in their hatred of National Socialism. But even the Bolshevists are clever enough to see that there is absolutely nothing behind the empty words of the Western Powers. As for us, we tell the world … that we are not yet at the peak of our strength but only at the threshold of our greatness.”
